Krak Card Review

Krak Card is the most transparent crypto debit card in Europe right now: zero transaction fees, zero FX fees, zero ATM fees from Kraken's side, and up to 1% uncapped cashback paid in your choice of local fiat or Bitcoin. It supports 400+ crypto and fiat assets with real-time conversion at checkout and comes at the Mastercard World Elite tier for free. The main limitations are UK/EEA-only availability, a custodial model, and uncertainty around post-promo cashback tiers after March 31, 2026.

Pros

  • Zero Kraken fees on everything: no transaction fee, no FX markup, no ATM fee, no annual or monthly charge. Fiat-to-fiat spending costs you nothing.
  • Up to 1% uncapped cashback on all eligible purchases, payable in EUR, GBP or Bitcoin at your choice — no spending cap, no category restrictions.
  • 400+ spendable crypto and fiat assets with real-time conversion at checkout. The app can split a single purchase across multiple balances automatically.
  • Mastercard World Elite tier at no cost — Zero Liability fraud protection, ID Theft Protection and 24/7 concierge included. Most cards at this tier charge annual fees.
  • Metal card for users holding £/€50,000+ average balance — no lockup, no staking, assets stay fully liquid — with up to 4% cashback on travel via Krak Concierge.
  • Regulated by Monavate (FCA UK, Bank of Lithuania EEA), Kraken holds a MiCA license via Central Bank of Ireland, and publishes Proof-of-Reserves on major crypto assets.

Cons

  • UK and EEA only — not available in the US, Asia or LATAM.
  • Custodial: Kraken holds your funds. No government deposit insurance (no FSCS, no DGS). If Kraken has problems, your balance is at risk.
  • Post-promo cashback is unclear: the flat 1% for everyone ends March 31, 2026. After that, rates depend on your 30-day average balance — but Kraken hasn't published the exact tiers below £/€50k.
  • Crypto-to-fiat conversion has a hidden cost: Kraken charges no explicit fee, but the conversion spread (typically 0.3–0.5%) means spending crypto isn't free.
  • Krak Vaults (up to 10%+ APY) are UK-only. EEA users don't get yield — a gap that Kraken's marketing glosses over.
  • New product (card launched late 2025) with a short track record.
