Plutus Card Review

Plutus offers the highest theoretical cashback rate among European crypto cards (up to 9%) and a perk system with 50+ brands (Netflix, Spotify, Aldi, Lidl, Uber, Amazon) that can offset subscription and grocery costs in practice. But the 2026 pricing overhaul removed the free tier, introduced a 2.5% FX fee, and capped eligible monthly spend at £250–£1,000 depending on plan. It's now a niche card for disciplined domestic spenders in the UK/EEA who actively manage perks and understand PLU tokenomics — not a general-purpose card.

Pros

  • 3% base cashback with zero staking, climbing to 9% by stacking PLU tokens. The highest cashback ceiling of any European crypto card.
  • 50+ lifestyle perks: earn 100% back (up to £/€10 each) at brands like Netflix, Spotify, Amazon, Disney+, Uber, Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Starbucks, Shell and more. Choose and rotate monthly.
  • Non-custodial: connect your own wallet (MetaMask, Ledger, any Ethereum/Polygon wallet). Plutus reads your PLU balance on-chain — your tokens never leave your wallet.
  • Compounding Rewards Yield (CRY): earn bonus PLUS points by holding PLU long-term, with rates matching your reward level. Rewards compound without active management.
  • Netherlands-based IBAN with Visa debit. Top up with fiat via bank transfer, spend anywhere Visa is accepted.
  • 14-day free trial on all plans to test before committing.

Cons

  • No free tier in 2026. All plans require a monthly subscription: Starter £6.99, Everyday £9.99, Premium £19.99. The free Plutus era is over.
  • Low eligible spend caps: cashback only applies to the first £250/month (Starter), £500/month (Everyday), or £1,000/month (Premium). Spend beyond the cap earns nothing.
  • 2.5% FX fee on non-domestic transactions. This kills international spending — Plutus is now a domestic-only card.
  • Rewards paid in PLU, not fiat or stablecoins. PLU is illiquid (DEX-only on Uniswap or limited exchanges) and volatile. Your 3% cashback may be worth 1% or 5% when you sell.
  • Only supports ETH and PLU. No BTC, no stablecoins, no multi-chain assets. Extremely narrow crypto support.
  • No Apple Pay. Physical card costs £9.99 extra. No free ATM withdrawals. Third-party deposits to IBAN not supported (only deposits from accounts in your name).
